Top 24 Nursery Trends 2024

If you’re in the midst of nesting mode, you’re probably thinking through a lot of design ideas and starting to stock up on nursery must-haves. Read on for our co-founders Jen and Becca’s detailed guide to the most coveted nursery design trends for 2024.

    1. Sustainable Design. Choosing natural, organic materials is increasing in popularity. As the focus grows on eco-friendly fabrics like bamboo, cotton and natural wool, parents continue to seek out all-natural furniture produced without harsh chemicals and decor that contributes to a healthy environment. We’re seeing more organic mattresses, couches, rugs and clothing for littles than ever before.
    2. Mix Modern with Vintage. Create a unique, personal aesthetic by mixing modern furniture with vintage design elements. Classic decor and antiques work especially well with sleek, modern furniture when you strike the right balance between the two (like an antique dresser with a barebones wooden crib or a rug with modern art elements alongside a vintage-inspired toddler bed.)
    3. Soft Traditional. If you don’t want your nursery design to look too stark or contemporary, soft traditional spaces are timeless and elegant. While the room may blend styles from many eras, its elements combine to create a classic ambience that you won’t get tired of. Use a restful color palette that encourages your little one to wind down and relax like the blush tones of the luna dawn crib sheet. Match a soft traditional nursery to the rest of your home with things like wooden furniture with ornate knobs, a handcrafted dresser with decorative painted details and artwork that is perennial and long-lasting.
    4. English-inspired. A nursery that pays homage to the English countryside, a love of historical gardens and just the right balance of antique British decor. Make a space that feels like a turn of the century cottage with all its beautiful surroundings. Create this English-inspired vibe with the clover crib sheet and Field of Dreams swaddle, use a muted color palette like sage green, soft blush or old-fashioned blues and incorporate wooden furniture, knobs and toys.
    5. Neutral and Earthy Color Palettes. An earthy color palette with the full spectrum of creams, beiges and browns creates a calming environment and becomes the perfect backdrop for all the memories your little one will create in the nursery. Neutrals and brown tones are persistent in popularity because they offer versatility and tranquility in the nursery.
    6. Flexible and Modular Design. Choose multi-functional furniture pieces that serve more than one purpose, like an ottoman that opens for storage. Furniture that grows along with your little one is a great option because it means you won’t have to replace everything as soon as they hit the toddler stage. Storage solutions like adaptable furniture that can be reconfigured as your little one grows continue to be popular (try a newborn seat that transforms into a toddler chair or a convertible crib to toddler bed).
    7. Gender-neutral Themes. Neutral color palettes, themes and decor that work for any gender are on trend. Avoid pink or blue color schemes and opt for a more flexible gender-neutral theme overall. Unisex colors or prints like yellows or greens (try the crib sheet in Moondance or the Explore the World swaddle) make it simple to switch up decor or redecorate as your little one starts to develop their own individual style. Keep the room from feeling bland or sterile by adding textures and visual accents that are open-ended yet inviting.
    8. Biophilic Design. Bring nature indoors with wood, optimal natural light and plants (don’t shy away from faux trees if you have pets or are concerned your curious littles won’t be able to leave it be). Biophilic design welcomes the natural world, embraces healthy materials and focuses on air quality. Since littles are particularly sensitive to their environment, using biophilic design principles in your nursery design is a trend that can positively impact learning and productivity.
    9. Personalized Spaces. We’re seeing a lot of beautiful, handcrafted decor that adds an element of your little’s unique personality and budding style. Start with wall hangings or artwork featuring your little one’s name and once they are old enough to tell you what they like, get their input on prints, favorite characters or artwork
    10. Captivating Patterns. Colorful and eye-catching patterns are a pivotal accent to nursery trends for 2024. Whether you choose a wallpaper, rug, play mat or bedding, there are many options for charming patterns that are pleasing to the eye and help create a stunning, stylish space to foster your little’s development.
    11. Wall Murals. Create an immersive space with strong, large-scale art elements like a custom mural. An artist can create a personalized painting on a single wall, a trim that follows the path of the entire room, or an abstract collection of shapes, colors and characters. You can also choose a theme from a classic children’s story like Alice in Wonderland or Beatrix Potter
    12. Playful Lighting. Unique lighting fixtures add character to the room. A ceiling mounted chandelier or decorative light serves as the focal point for your little one as they gaze up from their crib, while stylish wall sconces frame a doorway or mirror. Lighting can add a bit of whimsical style that ignites your little one’s imagination (try a darling night light character to keep them company or a projector-style ceiling light that showers the room in a starry night sky).
    13. Animal Themes. Incorporate animals in your nursery design through decor, wallpaper and accessories. Choose a theme like safari, farm animals or aquatic life and stick with it across all your nursery design choices. Try play mats in playful prints like Into The Wild or Magical Forest, swaddles in Life Aquatic or Bunny Hop, and blankets in Hatchling Fawn or Follow Me Elephant.
    14. Nostalgic Design. Retro themes are a la mode, especially with millennial parents seeking out the joys of their childhood memories. Not only are the most popular toys, films and books of our youth back in circulation, retro themes offer the perfect accent to evoke nostalgia for parents. Use family photos in antique frames, hand-me-down dolls and treasured children’s books to bring your own family memories to mind.
    15. Texture Play. Mixing different textures creates sensory experiences for your little one through touch. A lot of materials like knits, faux fur and velvet offer your little one tactile play. In a Montessori nursery, most toys are wooden and can be played with in a variety of ways alongside tactile decor like quilted play mats and three dimensional rugs.
    16. Artistic Expression. Handmade art or DIY decor adds a personal touch to your nursery design. Hang up art prints from your childhood room, paintings passed down from your grandparents or handmade decor like wall hangings or macrame to give your little’s space a sense of your style and your family’s history.
    17. Mixing Patterns. Get creative with different patterns and prints. Nursery design for 2024 focuses on crafting a dynamic look by choosing a few patterns and prints that have an element uniting them while adding a complex, unique look to your little’s room. Balance patterns by only mixing two to three designs - choose one dominant, large-scale pattern and then combine small accents that play up the feature pattern.
    18. Statement Ceilings. Littles spend a lot of time looking up at the world - on the change table, in the crib or hanging upside down from a pikler climbing triangle. Create a statement ceiling that engages your little one by decorating with patterns painted to frame the light fixture, adding decals or wallpaper.
    19. Whimsical Themes. Spark your little’s imagination with fantasy, folklore and fairy-tale inspired designs! Add some magic with woodland creatures, wizards, unicorns and gnomes and watch your little one’s storytelling really take off. Add our Secret Garden print with mushrooms, butterflies, unicorns and fairies for a nod to the magic of the forest in swaddles, crib sheets and sleep bags
    20. Cozy Corners. Creating comfy reading nooks and quiet spaces signals to your littles that it’s time to prepare for sleep. Choose a comfy glider or chair, a large floor bed or a modular sofa you can continue to cuddle up in with your little one as they grow.
    21. Educational Spaces. Incorporate learning elements into your nursery design for 2024. This can be as simple as a baby blanket with ABCs, a mural with numbers or a rainbow showing off all the colors of the light spectrum. Try glow-in-the-dark solar systems or interactive velcro wall hangings that invite littles to pull and place each planet. Create a chalkboard wall for learning at every age or an area for toddlers to sort flash cards of their daily routines.
    22. Minimalist Design and Functional Storage. Multi-use storage is the ideal way to embrace minimalist design principles while preparing a space that doesn’t overwhelm your little one. Tuck things away out of sight and try these tips for small baby rooms to help keep things clutter-free. Consider open baskets like pom pom minis or bins for easy access that also add a soft style to your nursery design. Try hampers for laundry or large items like blankets and hideaway storage under the crib or in the closet.
    23. Artisanal and Handcrafted Pieces. With more and more appreciation for artisanal creations and handmade decor items, there are many ways to add a personal touch to your nursery design in 2024. A handcrafted mobile made with 100% wool elevates your little’s room with a one-of-a-kind art piece. Thoughtfully crafted to delight, enchant your little as they gaze up at sweet characters like llamas, seahorses, giraffes or stars.
    24. Maximalist Accents. A rise in maximalist design featuring bold patterns, vibrant colors and eclectic decor choices help create visually stimulating spaces. Little ones will pick up the cues from striking visuals at every age and instilling a sense of wonder during this formative time is a great way to inspire young minds. Using maximalist accents like drapery, detailed wall paper or a feature wall in a bright color adds a unique spin to nursery design in 2024.
